Kamilari

... is a picturesque village in south Crete. It is situated in Mesara Plain only 60 km away from Heraklion Airport and just 3 km away from the beach.

Our village is widely known for the Minoan tholos tomb that was discovered by Archeologists of the Italian School at the end of 1950s. In addition, the archeological sites of Festos, Komos and Matala are in a short distance.

The village's topography is ideal, as it allows the view to different directions and landscapes. In the central square you will find the church of Agios Panteleimonas and Metamorfosis Sotiros with its imposing belfry, that dates back to the 18th century. Every year it is celebrated on 6th August with a fest that takes place at the central square. Very close to the village you may also find two natural water springs.

Well known is "mother olive" the age of which is estimated around 2.500 years. Among the picturesque roads of Kamilari you may find traditional cafes, tavernas with cretan cuisine, stores and pizzerias, a supermarket and a pharmacy as well. The closest beaches are Κommos, Matala, Kalamaki, Afrathias, Kokkinos Pyrgos and Agia Galini.
